Jak oceniłbyś offseason Saints do tej pory? Kto jest największym wzmocnieniem, a kto największą stratą?
Uważam, iż ich dotychczasowe offseason było przyzwoite. Poza zatrzymaniem Nicka Fairleya, nie uważam aby zespół poczynił ruchy którymi można się ekscytować, ale było to spokojne i wyważone podejście. Wciąż wiele rzeczy musi zostać zrobionych zanim będziemy mogli jakkolwiek oszacować dokąd ten zespół zmierza.

Hello fellow football fans! Welcome to our first Q&A about the Saints. We have a special guest in it – Nick Underhill (@nick_underhill) from TheAdvocate. Nick covers the Saints, often offering an insight in team and its moves.
How would you grade Saints off-season thus far? Who is the best addition, and who is the biggest loss?
I think the offseason has been decent. Outside of retaining Nick Fairley, I don’t think there’s a singular move to get too excited about, but it’s been a steady, measured approach. Larry Warford provides an improvement over Jahri Evans. AJ Klein gives the team a middle linebacker. Ted Ginn should be a good enough replacement for Brandin Cooks. Alex Okafor is a player with upside and worth taking a shot on.
Losing Cooks, obviously, is the biggest blow. But I think the Saints will figure it out, keep moving the ball and scoring points.
The overall view of the offseason will be determined by the draft and if the Malcolm Butler trade happens.
What are your thoughts about Butler’s trade? Also, is a Butler-for-Cooks swap fair-deal?
I like the idea of it a lot. Butler is a very good cornerback and addresses a major need for the Saints. If they get him, suddenly they’re a pass rusher away from contending for a playoff spot. I think pairing him with a healthy Delvin Breaux could give New Orleans a special secondary. If the deal happens, it comes down to compensation. I wouldn’t give up the 11th pick, but anything else would seem fair to me.
What is now, in your opinion, Saints plan for the draft? Go all-defense, pick Drew’s successor or take one of the RB’s?
They’ve done enough that they have some flexibility in how they approach the draft. I don’t think they should get too locked in on anything in specific spots. Some of the better picks last year — Michael Thomas, Vonn Bell, David Onyemata — weren’t immediate positions of need. I think the Saints have to get a pass rusher with one of their first three picks, but I don’t think it has to be at a particular spot. My view of the draft has always been to take the best available player who fits and figure it out later.
Defense will be improved not only by new faces, but also by return of healthy Delvin Breaux, PJ Williams and, finally, Hau’oli Kikaha. With corners being fairly known with what they offer, what can we expect from Kik and what role can he fill in after this injuries? Will he and Okafor be enough at strong-side DE?
I think all of those guys will help out a lot. Delvin Breaux and P.J. Williams are major upgrades over the corners they finished with last season. Hau’oli Kikaha is coming back from his third ACL injury. His situation is a little less clear. If he can play, it would be a big boost for this defense. If healthy, he should be high in the rotation at the defensive end spot opposite Cam Jordan. If everything goes right, he and Okafor could give the team some pass rush. But both players have questions to answer, and I’d feel a lot better about the situation if the Saints bring in another pass rusher.
What is the ceiling of this team? Will possible Butler acquisition and new faces turn this defense into good one? Will offense maintain its status without Cooks presence?
If they acquire Butler and draft well, I could see the Saints winning something like 10 games and competing for a playoff spot. If they don’t do either of those things well, I think it will be a frustrating season. There are still a lot of things that need to happen before we can fairly evaluate where this team is heading.
